About David

David Buchwald is committed to improving the lives of the citizens of White Plains and making the city an even greener, cleaner, safer, and more enjoyable place to live, work and play. As David says, "White Plains is our home. We should do everything possible to ensure we are taking care of it for today and tomorrow."

A Commitment to Public Service

A resident of downtown White Plains who used to live just off of North Street, David is active in community affairs and city government. As a weekly volunteer at the White Plains clinic of the Westchester County Earned Income Tax Credit Program, he assists low- and lower-middle-income residents apply for federal and state tax refunds. In 2008 Governor Paterson appointed David as one of Westchester County's six representatives on the Metro-North Railroad Commuter Council. In this capacity, David works to improve the railroad's services and responsiveness to the needs of Westchester's riders.

His current commitments and appointments include:

A Vision for White Plains

Qualified for the Job

A proud graduate of Westchester public schools, David attended Yale University where he earned a B.S. in Physics. During one of his college summers, David interned for Congresswoman Nita Lowey and worked on the Safe and Sober Streets Act. David honed his political skills as the Speaker of the Yale Political Union.

After graduating, David worked for three years at the Manhattan offices of NERA, an economics research firm headquartered in White Plains. At NERA, David's research focused on antitrust economics ranging across numerous industries, from cable to music to retail stores. David then went on to receive a J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School and a Masters of Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. David served a three year term on Harvard Law School's Administrative Board and interned in the Manhattan District Attorney's Office. Today David works in the tax department of the law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, where he represents both business and pro bono clients in need of tax advice.

 

A Little More about David

Today, David lives in downtown White Plains and enjoys all that our diverse city has to offer. He is a member of Congregation Kol Ami and holds season tickets to the White Plains Performing Arts Center. David also enjoys rooting for his beloved Mets, learning about White Plains' historic past and sharing it with others through his work with the Historical Society, walking the White Plains Greenway, and watching our own Mamaroneck Avenue ball drop on New Year's Eve.

David is honored to be nominated for the position of Councilman and is looking forward to using his legal, economic and public policy skills to serve the residents of White Plains.
